(Allium ampeloprasum) A solid, fat winter leek. We got this variety from Adaptive Seeds in Oregon; they got it from a biodynamic grower in Mechelen, Belgium who had selected it for cold-hardiness. We are continuing the selection; our seed population overwintered outdoors with a bit of mulch for protection. Enormous pink flowers in the second year are quite ornamental, by the way.

(Allium cepa) An excellent yellow storage onion which easily lasted all winter in our house. Alan Kapuler bred this variety by dehybridizing a European storage onion. Due to low germination when tested in Dec. 2023, we are increasing the quantity you receive in each packet.

(Allium fistulosum) Also called bunching onion, Welsh onions are used as green onions (though they are large enough to have earned the nickname “poor man’s leek”, and can also be used in any recipe calling for leeks). They are perennial, and also multiply vegetatively; once they are established, divide them in the fall to increase your patch, and never buy seed from me again!
